The Solution

OVERVIEW

One year ago, before current Federal legislative efforts to reduce distracted driving, Drive Safely Corp. began development of a suite of products, entitled “Stay Alert Features (SAFe)”, aimed at reducing motor vehicle accidents related to distracted driving.

Earlier this year Drive Safely Corp. launched SAFe , which are a number of patent-pending products intended to prevent drivers of motor vehicles from accessing various messenger functions of their mobile phones.  The unique algorithm allows passengers to continue to use their messenger services.

THE SAFe SUITE

The SAFe Product Suite is comprised of 5 individual products, each of which is designed for a specific purpose.  The functions of each product are described below.
  1. Anti-Messaging Technology (AMT).  This line of products has three distinct components, all of which are designed to be utilized together or as stand-alone products.  AMT’s three components are:

    • Anti-Texting Technology.  This product is designed to disable a driver’s ability to review, send or receive SMS texts.
    • Anti-Email Technology.  This product is designed to disable a driver’s ability to review, send or receive phone-based e-mails.  Browser- based e-mail services can be disabled through implementation of SAFe’s Anti-Browsing Technology (ABT), detailed below.
    • Anti-MultiMedia Technology.  This product is designed to disable a driver’s ability to view, send or receive multi-media files.  In today’s smart phone environment, it is incredibly easy for a user to access multi-media files from social networking sites, file-sharing sites and sites that provide movie or video clips.

  2. Anti-Browsing Technology (ABT).  This product is designed to prevent drivers from using their phones to access the internet.  It is extremely common in today’s world for mobile phone users to browse the web through their phones.  Three factors compelled Drive Safely Corp. to spend a considerable amount of time and resources to develop this product: (1) there has been a exponential increase in the proliferation of smart phones with web browsing capabilities; (2) web browsing has steadily increased to the point where it is now a ubiquitous reflex of all demographic populations; and (3) research indicates that it takes significantly more attention to browse the web than to utilize other features of a mobile phone.

Each of the products in the SAFe Suite can be launched individually or in conjunction with one another.  Drive Safely Corp. has the capability to disable a user’s text services, MMS, e-mail, web browser or video functions (Multi-Media), either together or individually.  The SAFe Suite of products will have a minimal effect on a passenger's ability to access these services or perform these operations.

IT IS CRITICAL TO NOTE THAT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCE WILL ANY OF THE SAFe SUITE PRODUCTS AFFECT A USER'S ABILITY TO PLACE AND RECEIVE EMERGENCY CALLS.

HOW SAFe WORKS

All of Drive Safely Corp.’s products in the SAFe Suite utilize Global Positioning Satellite (GPS) data to ascertain whether the user’s mobile phone is in a moving vehicle.  If SAFe determines that the phone is in motion, a screen pops up whenever the user first attempts to access the targeted function of the phone (SMS text, MMS, e-mail, Browser, Multi-Media).

For example, if a user attempts to access the phone’s SMS text services (to read, send or receive a text) when the phone is in a moving vehicle, Anti-Texting Technology is initiated and a screen advises the user that “Texting While Driving is Illegal,” and then asks the following question: “Are you a driver?”

If the answer is “YES,” the phone’s SMS texting capabilities are disabled until the phone has been at rest for a designated period of time.

If the user answers “NO,” then Anti-Texting Technology will allow the user to access the phone’s SMS texting capabilities only if the user is able to input a series of letters, numbers and symbols within a restricted time frame, a process called the “Attention Validation Sequence.”

The Attention Validation Sequence screen displays randomly assigned letters, numbers and symbols.  In order to avoid immediate disablement of the phone’s messenger functions, the user must input the data exactly as shown in a very short time period.

Following the initial Attention Validation Sequence screen, Anti-technology Technology periodically and (without warning) initiates additional Attention Validation Sequence screens to ensure that the user is not driving a motor vehicle.

If the user fails to respond exactly, and in the required time period, with respect to every Attention Validation Sequence screen, the Anti-Texting Technology will disable the phone’s SMS text capabilities until the phone has stopped moving for a period of time.

THE SAFe REVOLUTION

Distracted driving legislation enjoys unanimous support from an overwhelming number of Americans, federal and state legislators from both parties, the cell carriers, and various advocates group.  The problem lies in the ability of state and local officers to enforce distracted driving legislation.  Prior to DSC’s revolutionary technology, there was no easy solution to this problem.  DSC’s enforcement solution gives legislators the ability to incorporate into law a provision and/or language that allows municipalities the opportunity to license technology in order to enforce distracted driving legislation.

SAFe HAS NO COMPETITION

Drive Safely Corp. has no competitors.  Other companies employ technology that can be bypassed or disabled at the discretion of the user.  DSC’s SAFe suite of products is not a software application that is downloaded on a user’s phone.  Rather, it is intended to be broadcast by each mobile phone carrier thereby making it impossible for a user to disable or bypass.

Drive Safely Corp.’s SAFe suite of products is designed to run on all mobile phones and is compatible with all carriers.

The software is in beta release and available for demonstration by appointment by contacting Drive Safely Corp.
